FCI Hosts Care for Ocean, Engage Coral Kids Club on World Tourism Day

BY KOLINIO VULAONO – World Tourism Day served as an opportunity to educate people about the benefits and challenges of tourism and to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable tourism practices.

Castaway celebrated World Tourism Day by taking part in underwater clean-up activity and Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTs) removal. A total of 10kg of waste was collected with five COTs. In addition, thirteen excited kids from the Coral Kids Club took the time out to harvest 16kg of cabbage from the resort veggie garden and donated it to the Kitchen Department.

The resort would like to thank all the hosts that took part and supported the celebration.

Introducing Rise Beyond the Reef Compostable Cups

BY ASHNEEL CHAND – FOR switched to using PortionPaks biodegradable coffee cups due to its partnership with Rise beyond the Reef coffee cups to which all revenue generated from these cups go towards supporting its various community-based projects. The cups are biodegradable, environmentally friendly and they align with our sustainability goals. We received an update from Portion Pak that our Q1 purchases helped raise FJ$1000, which has been donated directly to Kioa Island Primary school (a small island community situated between Vanua Levu and Taveuni). Rise beyond the Reef works with women weavers in this village, hence they wanted to complement this and send the Q1 royalties to this primary school.
