FOR celebrates International Day of Forests
BY ASHNEEL CHAND – The theme for this year’s International Day of Forests (IDOF) was ‘Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World.’ Park Rangers from Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park in collaboration with the Unit Trust of Fiji and OISCA invited FOR and other organizations to be part of their IDOF event which was held on March 21. OUTRIGGER hosts and guests traveled from the resort to the national park to take part in different activities with the main activity of tree planting. We planted more than 100 different tree plant species and we also made tree huggers. Despite the rainy weather conditions, everyone was in great spirits and doing their part.
The Biggest Hour for Earth
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is the global organization behind the Earth Hour movement. Every year, on the last Saturday of March, WWF encourages people to save an hour for Earth. Many businesses and landmarks turn off unnecessary electric lights and appliances for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., as a sign of their commitment to the planet.
FOR Earth Hour this year was observed on March 23 as the team conducted an outage for the restaurants and some public areas from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. During the one hour of lights out, we held a beach party bonfire and face painting for the kids. It was a fun night bringing guests together to enjoy the activities. Our restaurants used alternative lights like battery operated lamps and candles.
Talai Butlers, Porters & Front Office Department Give Back
Our team of dedicated hosts shared their love and passion for the environment by dedicating their time in cleaning our surroundings. On Saturday, April 20 our team of hosts consisting of our Talai Butlers, Porters and Front Office conducted their community project picking up rubbish along the beach and roadside near the resort covering a total of 7km. This was a family day for our hosts as we were supported by the family members, and it was a great success. A total of 90kg of rubbish was collected and we look forward to more engagement and opportunities for our team to give back to the environment and community.
Bebe Spa Department Provides Health Screening for Hosts
Regular checkups are beneficial for people of all ages. It can help identify potential issues before they become a significant health issue, and early detection of illnesses can often lead to treatment. On March 19, Bebe Spa hosts held their annual Community Program for Health Check and Blood Drive at the Resort. FOR Hosts felt great learning the status of their health. More than 95 hosts were screened, happy and healthy!
