Gabby Pahinui – Waimānalo Kanikapila

Soft Breeze, Sweet Music, and Aloha All Around at Gabby’s Get Together

BY LUANA MAITLAND – The 17th Annual Gabby Pahinui – Waimānalo Kanikapila Festival was held April 20, 2024 at Waimānalo Beach Park. I’ve been there representing OUTRIGGER at this special event since the 2nd edition and every year since. It was a wonderful day with enough sun, soft breeze and misty rain (just enough to cool off) throughout the day. More than 100 performers made their way on stage. Some had to group up, kanikapila style, to be able to play music. There were several food trucks, my favorite was the shave ice truck. Waimānalo Canoe was fundraising selling shrimp plates, Artist Leohone Mazno had a tent selling her prints, and she gave a few prints away as well.  This year’s T-shirt design this year was created by Leohone.  It was the same design on this year’s poster as well.
