Food Allergen Awareness Training

BY URMILA SHRESTHA — Our food handlers must have an awareness of what food hypersensitivities and allergens are, how they can affect customer safety and how they can communicate the correct information to those who need to know; therefore, Food Allergen Awareness Training was provided to MAM hosts who engage in food handling by Food Safety Asia and is part of our new-hire process.

Hosts learned about food allergy and intolerance; how to recognize the symptoms of an allergic reaction; to understand what information should be on pre-packed food labels; and what they need to consider to keep customers safe.

New Host Orientation (NHO)

New Host Orientation is our first opportunity to welcome a new host and get them started on the right foot. As the first step in facilitating a smooth transition to our workplace, orientation is meant to give new hires what they need to succeed in their role. A new-host orientation should be developed in a way that complements and emphasizes our workplace culture.

Orientation is important because it lays a foundation for the new host’s entire career with the company. It is incredibly important as it encourages host confidence and helps the new host adapt faster to the job; contributes to a more effective, productive workforce; improves host retention; and promotes smooth communication between the supervisor and the new host.
