Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort Community Project in ‘The Last Village Before Heaven’

BY ASHNEEL CHAND — On June 29, 2022, the housekeeping and laundry team completed a community project at Vakacereivalu Memorial School located near the Village of Matokana. Matokana Village is located in the interior of Navosa and some people say that it’s the last village before you reach Heaven. It is a common saying because of its geographical location — high up in the mountains, a bumpy ride, including crossing the Sigatoka River — it is a challenge for any visitor.

Two members of the Outrigger Fiji vuvale (family), Marika (porter) and Ana (security), hail from the village of Matokana. They had raised an alarm of need for the school students. The resort housekeeping department decided to sponsor 15 students. They made school gift packs that included bags, books, stationery and a lunch box. The team also donated boxes of clothes, stationery, Bibles, books and shoes and prepared lunch for the 69+ school students on that day.

The school was overwhelmed and appreciated the donation and visit. They mentioned that they hardly have any visitors, and on that day, it was like Christmas for the children — they were very emotional. A big Vinaka Vakalevu to the housekeeping and laundry team for their kind donations that made a difference in the lives of these students.
